as recounted in Bhoothalingam’s memoirs the rumours had the curious consequence of the Belgian royal palace withdrawing their agrément because they did not want a ‘tainted’ ambassador accredited to His Majesty the King of the Belgians! As Bhoothalingam remarks, this was rich coming from the descendants of King Leopold who had robbed the Congo blind!
